THE CLASS 60 LOCO WAS BUILT BETWEEN 1989 AND 1993 BY BRUSH TRACTION AT THEIR LOUGHBOROUGH WORKS. IT HAS HAD A CHEQUERED CAREER WITH SEVERAL EARLY TEETHINGPROBLEMS BEFORE THE LOCOS FINALLY SETTLED DOWN AND PROVED THEMSELVES AS PRIME MOVERS OF HEAVY FREIGHT AROUND THE NETWORK.
IT WAS ONLY IN 2003/2004 THAT SOME OF THE CLASS MEMBERS WERE STORED SERVICABLE DUE TO A DOWN TURN IN FREIGHT TRAFFIC AND FLOWS BEING TAKEN OVER BY THE MORE RELIABLE 66s. THIS DOWNWARD SPIRAL CONTINUED UNTIL JUST 15 WORKING EXAMPLES WERE IN TRAFFIC AND THE END SEEMED NIGH.
